Is Maoist ever going to succeed in Nepal?

With the onset of new political change, the success of Nepal’s Maoist revolution is one of the biggest questions in the minds of many that are concerned. After a long lasting chaotic civil war, Maoist finally won over the people’s voice. Success of their decade long endeavor is vouched by the overwhelming majority votes earned by the Maoists. Leaders like Puspa Kamal Dahal, Baburam Battarai, after dethroning monarchy, now run this small country in SouthEast Asia.
Now all those promises made by the “people’s party,” to rule the nation, has come true. The newly elected government is in the process or writing a new constitution. Nepali people had a choice of being ruled by the Maoist over monarchy. With this choice of Maoist over the monarchy comes a new hope. People of Nepal sacrificed the pseudo democracy bundled with monarchy and embraced communism for change. Being a firm believer of liberalism, I think we gave our freedom away. We gave our democracy away and entered a new system of hope, system for the poor, system without betrayal to the population, communism.
However, we have a history that will shed some lights. Any believer of liberalism, in a right state of mind, won’t be happy to live in a nation that has gone democratic to socialist. We have all heard terrifying stories about what communism brings to nations. Cuba has seen communism prosper rapidly but how does western world look at it? Are Cubans happy or are they just able to survive with what it given? If they were happy, they wouldn’t jump in boats and flee to places with potential to prosper .It true that Cubans don't have to worry about their medical bills nor do they have to worry about putting food on the table. Nonetheless, Why is the living standard in Cuba so low regardless of their growth rate of more than 5%. Economic prosperity and growth is possible if restrictions are put on people where a country is operated like a factory and citizens treated as workers.
Nepal can follow Cuba’s or China’s suit and raise the GDP by solely focusing on production. But are the Chinese happily living in China? In China an individual got brutally tortured by the police for stealing a bicycle. Furthermore, the same guy was killed, by the police, for retaliating by throwing a petrol bomb at the gate of the police station. Now imagine this same scenario in any democratic country with civil rights. A bicycle thief, in a society with civil rights, does not get tortured by the police. Nor-would the man throw a petrol bomb in retaliation to the torture he suffered. Being killed in a police custody is unacceptable in any country with enforced civil rights. So lesson here is, there are harsh consequences for minor crimes, let alone major ones, if you reside in a communist country.
Communist countries strictly control people’s lives. Opening up to new ideas are strategically discouraged by the government for the fear of losing control over the people. So, in the process of being in control, building the nation and competing with the outside world, one’s rights as a human being is not only ignored but violated. Not just people’s rights but their beliefs, including religious beliefs, are strictly controlled by the government. Crimes are punished inhumanely and harshly just to maintain a belief and preserve the old historic law of communism. The ruler takes all the rights and power from the ruled hence the ruled have absolutely authority to challenging the ruler’s rule at any given time. The more threatened the citizens are, more the communism prospers.
It is hard to find a Russian residing in Russia that can publicly criticize Vladimir Putin in Russia or a Chinese residing in china that can publicly criticize Hu Zin Tao in China. They refuse to criticize because they fear the very government that governs their lives. Communist rulers have so much power that citizens are scared, scared to death!
Journalism and media are public voices for the democratic world. United Nations , United States, Western Europe and most of the developed countries have an open media with freedom of press. On the contrary, Communist governments are scared of media. Why is media so controlled in these nations? For they believe that their citizen’s ignorance is a bliss. Nepal has recently followed suit by beating up journalist working for newspaper. The Maoist government of Nepal condemns the abuse but no implementation of any law is passed to preserve the rights of the people. When media is brought to its knees, citizens are kept in dark and a hand full of people of the government venture to become rich, powerful and the mighty, communism glitters more than gold.
